Murchison Falls

Murchison Falls National Park is one of the safari parks that Uganda has to offer. It is the oldest and largest national park in Uganda, with the mighty Nile River dividing the park into two. Along its way to Lake Albert, the Nile cascades 8 meters down, and it is at this waterfall that the park gets its name.

A visit to these waterfalls is truly worthwhile. You can reach the waterfalls both by boat and on foot. A short walk takes you closest to this impressive waterfall. A boat trip carries you along the Nile River to the waterfalls, a perfect opportunity to observe wildlife along the riverbanks. Crocodiles and hippos are almost guaranteed to be seen, and you may also encounter other mammals. There’s a good chance of elephants and antelopes coming for a visit along the riverbank. For bird enthusiasts, the boat trips are often a highlight. If you inform the guide that you are a birdwatcher, he will use his keen eyes to search for birds.

The impressive waterfalls of Murchison Falls National Park almost make us forget that this is also a fantastic safari destination. With our tips, you can search for your favorite animals in this park. If you have your own 4×4, you can drive through the park at your own pace and enjoy the views over the grassland. Wake up early, as our early morning rounds were particularly productive.

We use Murchison Falls National Park as a destination before heading to Kibale Forest National Park, just like in our self-drive that also takes you to these destinations.
