Queen Elizabeth National park

Just over a 2-hour drive from Kibale National Park, you exchange the lush jungle for vast savannas. Queen Elizabeth National Park is an impressive safari destination situated on the border with Congo. It is an intriguing safari location with fantastic views.

In Uganda, fences separating wild animals and humans are often absent, and Queen Elizabeth National Park is the most striking example. With several fishing villages within the park, humans and wildlife coexist side by side. Therefore, it’s not uncommon to encounter wildlife next to your camp during your stay.

The park is not only an excellent place to see Uganda’s ‘big four,’ but it’s also an interesting location for bird enthusiasts. Pelicans, flamingos, and hammerkops are just a few examples of the more than 600 different bird species you can find here.

In addition to going on a game drive, there are numerous other activities to keep you entertained. Viewing wildlife from a boat, similar to the Murchison Falls experience, is an excellent way to spot birds. Furthermore, Queen Elizabeth National Park organizes excursions to search for chimpanzees, often at a lower cost than in Kibale.

In any case, the park offers an unforgettable safari experience in a truly stunning location. The mountain range separating Congo and Uganda provides a beautiful backdrop during your game drive. The crater drive is also a challenging route to discover what your 4×4 is truly capable of. The park is divided into two parts, and this article mainly focuses on the northern part of the park. Further to the south is the Ishasha sector, known for its tree-climbing lions.
