Kibale National Park

Chimpanzees are one of the unique highlights that Uganda has to offer. Thanks to conservation efforts led by individuals like Jane Goodall, chimpanzees have been habituated in several locations in Uganda. This means that organized excursions can take us up close to admire these chimpanzees. Kibale Forest National Park is perhaps the most well-known destination for this.

It may be one of the most impressive experiences we have ever had. Due to conservation efforts, the chimpanzees are comfortable with people in close proximity. They seem completely unfazed by tourists taking photos just meters away. They walk right past you without regard for our comfort zones.

This remarkable activity is not only an unforgettable experience but also highly sustainable. A portion of the proceeds is used for the conservation of the chimpanzee population. Additionally, another portion benefits the local community of Kibale. This contributes to increasing local support for chimpanzees in the area and reducing human-wildlife conflicts.

However, Kibale offers much more. The area is dotted with tea fields that you can visit. Moreover, you can take hiking tours through the swampy area in search of birds and/or primates. In addition to chimpanzees, there are numerous other primate species in the area, boasting the highest density in all of East Africa.

Kibale Forest National Park is at a comfortable distance from Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you exchange the jungle for the savannah. Both locations are included in our self-drive through Uganda, taking you along the highlights of Uganda. The chimpanzee trekking is included in this journey.
